Project Description:

Ben Venue Laboratories is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Boehringer Ingelheim Corporation and is one of the world’s premier providers of contract manufacturing and development of sterile products. Ben Venue develops and manufactures liquid and lyophilized sterile products under contract to its customers. It is one of the oldest, largest and most experienced contract manufactures of lyophilized products.

Ben Venue engaged The Austin Company to provide Master Planning, design, engineering and project management services for their facilities in Bedford, Ohio.

Renovation and Modernization Projects – Renovation and modernization of two floors of mixed laboratories and offices to new modern offices with conference rooms and light laboratory space. The project included extensive HVAC modifications, including the de-commissioning of labs and removal of hoods and associated exhaust ventilation. Other HVAC work included evaluation for relocating roof-top chillers.

North Complex - Phase IV Remediation Project – New gowning/scrub rooms, controlled-non-classified (CNC) space and extensive redesign of corridors, secure vestibules and airlocks to help control the flow of people properly between cGMP/clean and dirty areas. HVAC work was relatively complex due to considerations for separating GMP and dirty areas.

Other considerations included: eliminating bottlenecks and pinch points to improve the flow of people, equipment and carts in the corridors and generally improving the accessibility of these into the various manufacturing suites along the CNC corridors. The projects also involved improving security and creating new secure transfer points for vendor delivered materials to the plant.
