Project Description:

When The Boeing Company experienced a significant increase in production at its aircraft painting facilities in Renton, Washington, it called on The Austin Company to execute a major expansion.

The Austin Company converted an existing facility into a 50,000 SF, state-of- the-art paint hangar. The Austin Company designed an innovative technique for controlling paint fumes for this project.

The hangar has an underfloor trench network for air evacuation, with secondary containment of liquids used in the cleaning process.

An area of 30,000 SF is dedicated to painting. An additional area of 20,000 SF was remodeled for offices and storage. The enlarged hangar is capable of handling two different types of aircraft — the 757 and the 737 — in a wet/dry painting system, with an output of seven planes per month.
