Project Description:

Coca-Cola USA produces thermally processed bottled beverages in renovated plants in Northampton, Massachusetts, and Waco, Texas. The Austin Company provided design, engineering and construction services for the modification of both facilities.

The Massachusetts facility was formerly used for production of Coca-Cola carbonated beverages, while the Texas plant formerly housed a clothing distribution operation.

In accordance with Coca-Cola USA’s fast-track schedule, construction was complete and equipment was installed in less than eight months after engineering began. Both projects required complex engineering of HVAC, power distribution, and plumbing systems to accommodate the installation of two hot-fill production lines.

In addition to blending and filling, The Austin Company’s scope of work also encompassed: filler/capper rooms, a wastewater treatment plant consisting of a series of underground tanks, a steam boiler plant, cold storage rooms, and a quality control laboratory.

Renovation of the 100,000 SF building in Massachusetts was planned to accommodate the installation of two additional production lines in the future. The 600,000 SF Texas facility was designed to have room for the addition of three more lines.

Both facilities include areas for finished product warehousing and distribution.

Throughout these projects, The Austin Company worked in close collaboration with the designers and installers of the conveyors, as well as with those of the water treatment, blending, thermal processing and filling line equipment.
