Confidential Research, Development and Manufacturing Facility

A confidential research, development and manufacturing company for molecular diagnostics products selected The Austin Company to design and engineer the renovation of a facility purchased to house two divisions.

Project Description:

A confidential research, development and manufacturing company for molecular diagnostics products selected The Austin Company to design and engineer the renovation of a facility purchased to house two divisions. Both divisions work in molecular diagnostics and the potential synergies created by combining the two divisions into one was expected to outweigh the investment in the facility renovation.

The office and miscellaneous support areas in the 186,000 SF existing facility remained much as they were. The areas that housed manufacturing, R&D and quality control were renovated extensively. Austin’s design and engineering renovations included replacing air handling, duct and major electrical systems; adding lab process utilities and waste systems; and providing architectural and structural upgrades to create an efficient flow of product, people and supplies.

Some of the renovated areas are cGMP compliant, while others included characteristics of clean rooms to Class 10,000. The new central plant consisted of three 200-h.p. boilers, two 400-ton chillers, a 1000-kW emergency generator, and a 20-gpm reverse osmosis system for USP purified water.
