Ferro Pfanstiehl Quality Control Lab

The Austin Company provided architecture, engineering and construction services for a new 6,000 SF laboratory building space for production of carbohydrates and enzymes.

Project Description:

The Austin Company provided architecture, engineering and construction services for a new 6,000 SF laboratory building space for production of carbohydrates and enzymes. One half of the lab is devoted to wet chemistry testing, sample preparation and equipment. The second half is devoted to method development and a portion of the laboratory includes an instrumentation room.

The location of the site was chosen to showcase the Ferro Pfanstiehl aesthetic. The window placement maintains security from the public, while still allowing light to interior spaces. Glazing clearly identifies the entry and projects an exterior image of a high-tech facility. Multiple brick tones were chosen to break up the horizontality of the front façade, while being economical in both cost and maintenance.

The efficient HVAC design saved cost in the office and laboratory adjacency by promoting air flow between the two. The facility was designed to fit within the residential context and maintain the exterior concepts and colors of the existing campus.
