McGill Manufacturing Company commissioned The Austin Company to design and construct a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility and office space in Valparaiso, Indiana. The facility is used to produce ball and roller bearings for the aerospace industry, as well as other applications.

McGill Manufacturing Company commissioned The Austin Company to design and construct a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility and office space in Valparaiso, Indiana. The facility is used to produce ball and roller bearings for the aerospace industry, as well as other applications. The facility comprises 124,000 SF of manufacturing space and 22,000 SF of office space.

The Austin Company also engineered the process piping, assisted in planning the layout for manufacturing operations, and assisted McGill with start-up. Improvements in manufacturing process controls, made possible by the new facility, enabled McGill to enter new markets and improve its position in the aerospace and specialty sectors that it serves.

The manufacturing building is steel framed, with exterior walls of insulated metal panels. It was designed to accommodate precision grinding and assembly operations, which were relocated from a nearby plant. Because of McGill’s precision manufacturing process and product requirements, approximately two-thirds of the plant is air conditioned to ensure consistent temperature, humidity and cleanliness.

Advanced control and monitoring systems are employed for HVAC, electrical, fire protection and security. The office area, faced with brick and decorative Indian limestone, functions as a transitional element, buffering the high-bay manufacturing plant from the residential neighborhood directly across the street.
