Project Description:

When Motorola, Inc. needed to consolidate several local offices into a single headquarters location, it called on The Austin Company to provided architecture, engineering and construction management services.

The building was the first to be erected in a new 265-acre mixed-use complex in Ontario, Canada, called Markham Downtown, which is comprised of shops, homes and office buildings.

Motorola’s headquarters facility houses engineering offices; electronic research, development and testing laboratories; training rooms for the Motorola University; and exhibition space to promote “The Motorola Experience.”

Motorola’s employee-oriented culture was reflected with an open office concept, with private offices located in the interior. Numerous breakout rooms, conference rooms and wide-stair landings facilitated communication and cross- fertilization of ideas. A fitness center and a spacious cafeteria with a kitchen complemented the core functions of Motorola’s operations.
