Project Description:

Salt River Project, one of Arizona’s largest public utilities, decided to consolidate its communication and information systems into one facility. The Austin Company provided design and engineering for this state-of-the-art, critical project.

The six-story data processing and systems development facility is the nerve center for complex systems, including sensors to monitor water levels and flow rates in a 1,300-mile canal system; microwave network that links generating stations; customer and staff communications; and an extensive data-processing system with hundreds of computers and terminals to handle tasks ranging from network mapping to engineering design.

This highly flexible facility has raised access flooring throughout, an extensive "pre-wired" telecommunication system, free lay carpet tile, demountable full height partitions and systems furniture. To ensure continuous operations, a complete UPS and emergency power system was designed into the facility.

The facility was the first of five to be erected in Salt River’s new 38-acre headquarters complex. The exterior design of the facility utilizes granite with different finishes, tinted glass and terracing levels, not only to combat the harsh environmental elements, but also to provide "world class" architecture as well. The result is a facility that blends naturally with its desert setting. Its colors complement those of the Papago Buttes that form its backdrop.
