Project Description:

The Austin Company provided design, engineering and construction services for Southeastern Mills, a market leader in specialty food ingredient production, including coating systems, marinades, specialty mixes and seasonings. The project involved the renovation of an existing distribution center building into an ingredient production and packaging facility in Rome, Georgia.

Austin’s services were provided on a fast-track basis. The project duration, from preliminary engineering to detailed engineering, permitting, purchasing and construction took less than six months. The Austin Company’s project management methodology enables expedited and precise execution for short timeline projects.

The project included interior and floor slab demolition of 30,000 SF of the 95,000 SF building to allow for installation of process drains with proper floor sloping. A new structure was erected inside the building to support a new walkable ceiling that allows for easy access to building and process support systems. Insulated panels were provided to segment specific operations integral to the process and maintain proper room pressurization and refrigeration. Process systems included meat grinding, blending, mixing and packaging, as well as other non-meat process and packaging operations.

Due to the meat processing components of the facility, the renovated area was required to comply with USDA standards.
