Georgia Gulf Corporation Quality Assurance Laboratory

This laboratory, which serves Georgia Gulf Corporation’s chemical plant, consolidates widely disbursed laboratory spaces and provides quality control and environmental testing for chemicals produced at the plant.

Project Description:

Because sanitation and cleanliness were primary concerns, the laboratory was designed with covered sample-delivery areas and pass-through windows to minimize traffic and sample handling. A once-through HVAC system and a separate laboratory-waste piping system were installed to service lab work areas.

The facility also contains chemist offices, a library/conference room, a lunchroom and other laboratory support areas.

The outside walls of the laboratory building have an exterior insulated finish system which has the appearance of stucco. Colors were chosen to match Georgia Gulf’s corporate colors of green and gray. Windows facing north allow natural light into the main laboratory areas.

Georgia Gulf is a major manufacturer of two highly integrated product lines — chlorovinyls and aromatics.
