An omega 3 production facility labTo support Martek’s Omega-3 production process, The Austin Company provided engineering, design and construction management for Martek’s campus in Winchester, Kentucky.  Primary uses for the Omega-3 products are as nutritional supplements in food and related wellness products.

Austin’s services supported the conversion of a warehouse facility for the installation of process equipment for Omega-3 encapsulation, and the re-location of a fermentation pilot plant and support functions into the William Smart Building at the Winchester R&D facility.

Modifications to the Smart Building included: transfer and reinstallation of process equipment, modifications and connections to existing utilities for the rearranged process, and construction of a new laboratory to support relocated and new processes.

The fermentation pilot plant relocation consisted of both new and existing relocated equipment and controls. Critical modifications to the Smart Building included the separation between existing processes and newly relocated processes, and ventilation systems and waste streams separation under BL1-LS containment guidelines.
